Progress and Enhancement Fund: Strengthening the Spaces That Support Our Community

Impact Alamance awarded Progress and Enhancement Fund grants totaling $150,000 to 10 projects making a meaningful difference in our community. These included enhancements to youth program spaces at the Alamance County YMCA and critical infrastructure improvements for Southern Alamance Family Empowerment (SAFE).

These investments reflect a shared commitment to creating a stronger, healthier, and more connected Alamance County by improving the spaces where children learn and neighbors access essential support.

Expanding Access to Fresh Food at SAFE

Impact Alamance also awarded SAFE a $30,000 grant to install a new walk-in freezer at its food pantry. This investment addresses a key operational challenge: SAFE previously relied on rented off-site freezer space to store fresh food. With an on-site freezer, staff and volunteers can now more efficiently store and distribute large quantities of meat, fruits, and vegetables received through partnerships with food banks and grocery stores.

Serving more than 3,500 families each year, SAFE is committed to providing not just food, but fresh and nutritious options that support health and dignity. The new freezer strengthens SAFE’s ability to meet growing demand while continuing to serve as a trusted community hub—connecting residents not only to food, but to additional services and local partnerships that help families thrive.

Inspiring Youth at the YMCA

The Alamance County YMCA received a $7,500 grant to enhance its Age-Based Program Spaces for Youth. By upgrading equipment, flooring, and classroom supplies, the YMCA is creating more engaging, developmentally appropriate environments where young people can learn, collaborate, and grow.

The improvements include age-appropriate furniture, smart TVs to support STEAM activities, new flooring, and essential classroom materials that foster creativity and critical thinking. Two overhead projectors and YMCA360 InStudio systems will expand access to on-demand wellness programming, extending the YMCA’s impact beyond scheduled classes. Staff training will ensure these new tools are fully integrated into daily programming, strengthening the YMCA’s commitment to youth development and healthy living.
