Building Capacity Through Leadership Institute

Strong communities are built by strong organizations—and strong organizations depend on capable, confident leaders. The Leadership Institute was created to support nonprofit and government leaders with the skills they need to lead effectively, strengthen their organizations, and expand their impact. By focusing on leadership development, Impact Alamance is investing in the people who hold systems together and helping ensure that organizations across the county are better equipped to serve residents and adapt to change.

This ten-month program brings leaders together to learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships across sectors. Participants engage in hands-on training and individualized coaching focused on essential leadership skills, including communication, decision-making, team building, managing performance, and navigating change. Just as important, the Institute creates space for leaders to learn alongside peers from different organizations—building trust, shared understanding, and a stronger partnership network across Alamance County.

Since 2016, 148 leaders from 67 organizations have completed the Leadership Institute, strengthening the collective capacity of the nonprofit and public sectors. Participants consistently highlight the value of connection and collaboration, noting how the program helps them lead with greater confidence while learning from people they might not otherwise have met. This growing network of leaders continues to support one another long after the program ends, reinforcing the idea that we are more capable together than alone.

In 2025, Impact Alamance celebrated the graduation of the program’s ninth cohort—21 leaders who dedicated time to sharpening their skills, deepening their relationships, and committing to purposeful leadership. Through investments like the Leadership Institute, Impact Alamance is advancing its mission by building healthier organizations and a stronger, more resilient community—one where leaders are prepared to work together toward shared goals and lasting impact.
