Expanding STEAM Access Through a Mobile Learning Lab
In July 2025, Impact Alamance and the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) came together around a shared vision of expanding access to hands-on, future-focused learning for students across the county. This partnership led to the submission of a $100,000 proposal to HONDA to fund and launch a Mobile STEAM Lab—an innovative, district-wide resource designed to bring learning directly to students, wherever they are.
Once operational, the Mobile STEAM Lab will travel throughout Alamance County, opening doors to hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). By removing barriers to access, the lab will promote curiosity, creativity, and innovation—ensuring students from every community can engage in meaningful, standards-aligned STEAM experiences.
HONDA grant funds will support the purchase of a vehicle, equipment, furnishings, and curriculum, transforming the Mobile STEAM Lab into a fully equipped learning environment on wheels. Beyond serving students, the lab will also support local educators, offering tools, resources, and co-teaching models that strengthen instruction and deepen student understanding of STEAM concepts.
This initiative goes further by connecting classroom learning to real-world possibilities. Through career exploration modules, students will gain exposure to STEAM-related careers and local industry sectors, including advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, and health sciences. Partnerships with Alamance Community College and local employers will help build a stronger pipeline to local workforce opportunities—allowing students to see a future for themselves right here in Alamance County.
Together, this effort reflects our commitment to collaboration, equity, and long-term impact. Through the Mobile STEAM Lab, students gain access to engaging learning experiences and clearer pathways to local careers, supporting a stronger, more connected future for Alamance County.
